About Hook Rural Tourism

Hook Rural Tourism Ltd is a community organisation on the Hook Peninsula, County Wexford.  The organisation has been in existence for over 50 years and is a not for profit enterprise. It works to promote the Hook Peninsula as a premier tourist destination and to protect its unspoiled coastal landscape and built heritage.

Hook Tourism is staffed through a Community Employment scheme and a Pobal scheme, supporting members of the local community through training opportunities. Hook Tourism has staff working in two tourist offices in Duncannon and Fethard-on-Sea supporting tourists in finding the unsung gems of the peninsula as well as supporting locals through the offering of secretarial services. Staff also work in environmental roles around the peninsula maintaining the local community in a Tidy Towns scheme.

Hook Tourism also organises several events throughout the year. In May, ‘Hike to the Hook’ is a walk that takes place between Tintern Abbey and Hook Lighthouse, a leisurely 20km walk as a fundraiser for the RNLI and Hook Tourism. In August if you fancy showing off your sporting prowess join us for ‘Tri the Hook Sprint Triathlon’. A Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event that encompasses many scenic sites around the peninsula in it’s swim, cycle and run. Finally in October, the annual photography competition brings in many stunning images of locations around the peninsula, with the winners being shown in a touring exhibition.
