Feile Samhain

29th October 2022 - 31st October 2022

We will celebrate a free traditional Samhain Festival on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Oct 29th to 31st ). Traditional Halloween games will be on offer for all the family, from pumpkin tossing, tug o war, a Halloween treasure quest and a few surprises along the way and there will also be a daily prize for the best costume. These events are on offer free of charge and no pre-booking is required.
Also on offer throughout mid-term, there is an opportunity to book Pumpkin painting with the Hook’s resident artist Rose from 12.00 noon to 4.00 daily and of course, family tours of the 800-year-old lighthouse are on offer daily. The lighthouse grounds have been taken over by the púcaí of the Hook and unsightly findings designed to terrify its finder.
Later in the evenings every half hour on Saturday 29th October and Sunday 30th October at 5.30, 6.00, 6.30 and 7.00 pm for adults and over 12’s ONLY ghastly and ghoolish lantern-lead tours of the 800-year-old tower are not for the faint-hearted.
The word on the waves lapping the shores of the ancient tower is that the devil has departed nearby Loftus Hall and set his sights on the medieval tower and we are calling on the public to join us in banishing him back to where he belongs. The season has drawn a crowd of worshippers from past and present who want to keep him there; so more than ever we need the help of the pure-hearted and the brave to rid him from our beloved and ancient lighthouse once and for all.
Visitors on these Devil hunting tours will venture into the black and ascend the 115 steps of the 800-year-old tower for a nighttime view of the graveyard of 1,000 ships. Thunder and lightning will roll on the high seas and atmospheric lighting and the creepy nooks and crannies along the way create an experience, which is not for the weak. These tours are suitable for brave adults and braver kids (over 12 only) but are not for anyone of a nervous disposition. Pre-booking is essential at €10 per person online at www.hookheritage.ie
Hook Lighthouse is the oldest original operational lighthouse in the world and they will be offering three free afternoons of ‘Samhain Feile’ and thrilling devil hunting tours from October 29th to 31st. The ‘Samhain Feile’ celebration afternoons are free of charge. Afterdark Halloween tours are on Saturday, October 29th and Sunday 30th only.
The Lighthouse café is open every day from 9.30 to 12.00 for breakfast; the Lighthouse Cafe also offers a full menu from 9.30 to 4.45 pm and will be serving traditional Samhain fare for Halloween weekend. The lighthouse visitor centre is open every day year-round, for further details visitors can ring 051397055 or email info@hookheritage.ie
