Tales of the Estuary is an original piece of theatre weaving together three themes, the fight of the Cockle Women to continue to trade on the streets of Waterford, the surge of Emigration and love.
The Cockle Women traded for generations on the streets of Waterford, mainly Peter Street, offering a cheap and nutritious meal to poor families until an attempt was made to end this in 1926.
Francis is a young man from a family dependent on fishing. He is offered a chance of a new life but will his love of Mary keep him from the pull of America?
This production offers an insight into the life’s of real people in Waterford and their struggles to survive.
