Hook Tourism are delighted to announce that the Inaugural Baginbun festival will be held in Baginbun, Fethard on Sea on Sunday September 5th.
‘At the creek of Baginbun, Ireland was lost and won’ is well remembered here in Wexford. It refers to the Normans’ victory over the local forces who fought them on their arrival in Baginbun in 1170. Arguably, one of the most significant events in Irish history.
Starting at 1pm on Sunday September 5th, the main focal point of the day will centre around an unveiling of a new monument by the French Ambassador, Vincent Guérend which commemorates the Norman landing.
Prof Kevin Whelan, historian and author, will also be giving a talk about those events in Baginbun at the site of the still intact fortifications.
There is an action packed schedule which will also include a Norman Re-enactment group, Dunbrody Archery display, Medieval games and Music.
Lunch will also be served in a socially distanced manner in a marquee at the location. This is a great event for the locals of the area, local historical societies and heritage groups and families of norman heritage, plus the curious amongst you…
